Help us test WordPress for Android!

Friday, August 6th, 2010

As we’re getting ready to launch the next update to our Android app, we’d really love your feedback on bugs you’ve encountered and other oddities in general that you’ve seen when using WordPress for Android. If you’d like to go even further you could help out a lot by simply using the app a lot and trying different things, and then reporting anything weird that you might find.

If you find a bug: submit a ticket at android.trac.wordpress.org, or write a detailed comment below explaining exactly what you did and what happened. There are also forums.

For developers out there wanting to get involved, you can browse the source code and check out a copy of the app via SVN: http://android.svn.wordpress.org.

We look forward to your feedback!

Version 1.3.2 of WordPress for Android was released to Android Market this morning. This release contains many bug fixes, including:

  • The Stats tab should work better for users with self-hosted blogs that are running the WordPress.com stats plugin.
  • Stabilization fixes for users running HTC Sense on Android 1.5.
  • Removed extra break and paragraph HTML tags that were being added when editing an existing post.

On top of the bug fixes in this release, we also squeezed in a few features including an easier sign in process as well as a small UI update including better tab icons and a nice ‘WordPress Blue’ title bar. Thanks to Kahil Young for contributing to the UI update!

WordPress for Android 1.3: Feature Fest

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

We just released WordPress for Android 1.3 to the Android Market and it’s jam-packed with hot new features. Get ready for even more powerful blogging-on-the go with these nifty additions:

View Stats on the Go

You can now view your blog’s stats right from your phone! Go to the fourth tab in the App, and check it out: You can see your page views, post views, referrers, search terms, and clicks — all in real time! There’s also an easy-to-read line chart for your page views:

Moderate Multiple Comments at Once

Save time by moderating several comments at once with the new “bulk edit” feature. Simply click the checkbox next to the comments you want to moderate followed by the status button that you want to apply.

Stylize Your Text with the Visual Editor

You can now create your posts with stylized text using the new visual editor! We’ve added new formatting buttons, including strikethrough and underline.

More Great Changes

The 1.3 release also includes many small enhancements and bug fixes, including better video embedding and resizing, new tab icons, and a redesigned post writing screen.

A Call to Android Developers

Version 1.2.1 Released

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Version 1.2.1 has been released to Android Market.  It is a minor update, yet adds some features that the user community has been looking forward to.  Changes include:

Delete Posts and Pages

You can now delete posts and pages directly from the app.  Simply select a post or page, and select ‘Delete’.  After confirming, the post or page will be moved to the trash.

Add a Post Signature

A small snippet of text can be added to the bottom of each new post you make with WordPress for Android.  We’ve defaulted it to ‘Posted from WordPress for Android’, but you can change it to whatever you’d like.  Note to theme designers, we added an id to the post signature so you can style it to your liking.

Better Embedding & Linking

Video uploads to blogs that don’t user VideoPress will now be embedded to the post when submitted from the app.  We’ve also made links that are shared with the app from other apps hyperlinks so that they are clickable by your readers when you post the link to your blog.

Bug Fixes

This release also includes the following bug fixes:

  • Media file upload fix for HTC Sense devices like the HTC Incredible
  • Optimizations for the Geotagging feature.
