WordPress for Android 1.3.8 has been released to Android Market. We squashed some bugs that we received from Android Market reports as well as added a new feature! Here’s what’s new:
Set Post Status
We had one of those “Should have added that a long time ago” moments when we discovered that you couldn’t set the post or page status from the app. Now when you are creating or editing content, you can choose the post status (Draft, Pending Review, Private or Publish).
Oodles of Bug Fixes
We had a look at some of the error reports we get from Android Market and took care of many of the issues that were causing the app to force close:
- Fixed crash when adding media on Dell Streak
- Fixed crash when attempting to add a self-hosted site with an invalid blog URL
- Fixed local db problem when upgrading from a 1.0.x or 1.1.x version
- Updated Polish translation strings
- Fixed crash when trying to add a second blog from a WordPress.com account or WordPress multi-user install
- Fixed no-name blogs from showing as blank in the multi-user blog selection screen
- Comments Loading progress bar no longer hangs
Visit Android Market to download the update, or scan the code:

Upgraded, great job.
By the way it shows me the text in english (i’m usin the App in Spanish).
Is there any way I can help with the translation?
Regards.
Yes, you can help translate the app at http://translate.wordpress.org. There’s a getting started guide there.
Oh right
Already on it.
Thanks Dan.
Great! Thanks for the update.
This is great guys!
Would really love to get rid of the “MAximum thumbnail pixel width” item and get this reading the actual on-line blog settings.
Or at the very least give the option to specifically set the size rather than have to choose from a limited set of options.
Keep up the great work
Ur all awesome!
WordPress 3.1 adds an API that we can use to get the image width settings from the blog, so look for that in a future update! A specific size field is a good idea as well.

Great! Now I have to do my first post using WP for Android.
Thanks for the update.
i will post this to http://1stwebdesigner.co.cc
One issue that I ran into was that contributor-level writers couldn’t submit their posts. Does this update change that?
I also saw some problems when adding multiple sites under the same MU structure. The app would add them all by name but only the one typed in actually works.
Thanks.
Can you give me a link to download the apk file?
I can’t use the market now.
Thank you!
There’s a link in the beta section of http://android.forums.WordPress.org
Dan,
Any idea when or if ever support for required FTP login (required by many/most shared hosting services) will be included in WPA? I can only publish text without this feature, making it unusable for me at this time. There are free usable FTP apps available in the Market. Perhaps some collaboration can resolve this muchly needed feture?

Still, the problem with special characters, like ‘è’. ‘ñ’, ‘ö’, has not been resolved. Only good for English only.
Make sure your blog us properly set up for UTF-8
Any single table in the database is UTF-8. The blog as well is UTF-8. Is there any other suggestion could help me? (cause I really love WP for Android!)

Thanks for the update! Love the new features.
Will the app ever be able to recognize the P2 theme setting where all users can post? Thanks!
Is there a way to upload sound files from the Android app?

What about the ability to schedule a post?
We have that on the to-do list!
Is this app good for the nookcolor? It runs Android 2.1, so I would assume so, but I didn’t want to risk it without asking for certain….
Hmm no idea really. We don’t have one to test the app on.
Hi!
Why can´t i upload videos from my htc (tattoo) I get the message that the format isn´t a accepted one… the movies are in mpeg4…
And I can´t do my moviex in other formats, it would be possible to upload movies even from the phone or?
If you have a self-hosted blog, you’ll need to allow the mime type of the mpeg4 video to be uploaded. This plugin should allow that to happen:

Great app! but not so much features!
Is not possible to set some parametrer like “Custom Field” in order to have a thumbnail on post
Yep, we’re working on adding custom field support in a future release.
Dear
I find this application great. It works well with some of my blogs, unfortunately with one blog I get an error message when I want to add the blog in the app. The error message is:
HTTP status code: 406 was returned. Not Acceptable
I am running the latest version (1.3.8) on a samsung galaxy tab.
Do you have any idea how to get through and add this blog?
Check that your xmlrpc.php file has the correct permissions set. We can help you further at http://android.forums.wordpress.org
little off topic but these QR codes scanned by Android phones just blows my mind!

Is this app only for posting?
Can I read the blogs I’m subscribed to or is it best to use a browser like Dolphin for that?
Thank you for all your hard work!
There’s no support for a blog reader yet, but we are planning on adding one in the future.
Oh god today only am seeing this information. I missed my wordpress blog on my android… No waiting. Am going to install.
is there a way to just add media without posting it straight away?
Not yet, but that’s a good idea.

Force closes on install on nexus one running 2.2
Hi, we test on a nexus one and haven’t seen this issue. Can you provide more details on where you are in the app when the crash occurs?
Weird, it was straight after install, launching the app for the first time. I reinstalled and it seems to be working fine now. Maybe a dodgy download?
